The Seattle Post Intelligencer is about to kick the bucket

I grew up in Washington State. For those of us who did, one of the things we all saw or read was one of the two newspapers we sort of viewed as the state papers. The Seattle Times and The P-I, Seattle Post Intelligencer. Well, The Seattle P-I has just announced they are in business for 60 days longer and then shutting their doors. That after 146 years in business.

I’m not writing this for any purpose but to use it as an example of how important it is that the old time media take heed. The days for traditional media are soon coming to an end unless you get it together and change how you see your future. There was a time when newspapers and broadcast journalists thought they had the world on a string. Those days are gone, my friends. Long gone. If you don’t believe it, consider the P-I.

Interesting quote from the letter Hearst Corporation sent to P-I employees (signed by Steven R. Swartz President, Hearst Newspapers:)

“Nothing we are doing here today is meant in any way to suggest that we don’t believe in the future of print publishing in our other newspaper markets.”

How’s that for denial? Shutting down a newspaper that’s been delivering content for 146 years. Yep, I really believe Mr. Swartz.

It’s a sad day in my history. A sad day for the State of Washington. It’s a new world, though, and you can say whatever you want, but the print media world has turned a corner.
