Jeff’s back, but I never thought he was gone

Posted in Communications Technologies, Social Media by Sheryl Breuker & Ken Camp on January 8th, 2009

So here’s some news I caught earlier by my friend Doug Mohney over on FireceVoIP. News to me anyway.

SPOTLIGHT: Pulver and VoIP – “I’m officially back”
Las Vegas – Jeff Pulver, the purple pundit of the VoIP world, is, in his own words “Officially back” and open to do anything from comment on current government policies, to participate in tradeshows related to his original baby.

FierceVoIP caught up with Pulver between sessions at his one day “Social Media Jungle” event held in cooperation with CES 2009. He wished Virgo Publications’s efforts to revive the VON tradeshow and publications “well” since VON was “his baby.”

So maybe this is a bit tongue in cheek, but I have to ask, Jeff was gone?

I think a lot of people in the industry I don’t talk about any more counted Jeff out of the game when issues arose last year that impacted the VON conference and publications. We never discounted Jeff for a moment. We did social media breakfast with him in Seattle and Vancouver. Not long ago we had dinner with him in Minneapolis.

I think Jeff’s been busier and more visible during this time period when everyone seems to think he was gone. He’s just been focused on bigger and better things.

I’m thrilled to see Jeff re-engaging actively directly in the community he helped create and love so much. I for one hope the battle against the regulators and the fight for “purple minutes” doesn’tdetract from his “Social Media Jungle” efforts. We think that’s where the hot action is going to be.

Jeff thinks so to. See this recent post:

Call for Speakers: The Social Media Jungle 2009 Road Show

“The Social Media Jungle events brings to light how the advent of social media is changing the way we work and live. Sessions may include state-of-the-industry updates and a candid look at how social media disrupts the workplace by empowering companies to lower burn rates. Plus, learn how companies can motivate consumers through leverage social media to drive product sales without increasing costs.”

After launching The Social Media Jungle back in November in New York, I decided to take the content of the event on the road in 2009. The first stop for the 2009 Social Media Jungle Tour is taking place today (January 7th) in Las Vegas at CES.

I’m looking for a people who would like to be considered discussion leaders at one or more of the The Social Media Jungle: Leveraging Social Media for YOU (and your business) events.

We’re already looking at the dates and locations to see which event(s) we can possibly make. We’re hoping to lead some conversation at one or more.
