We’re Going to Disneyland and More

We’re Taking Our Magic Love to the Magic Kingdom

We’ve been planning this weekend for a while. In truth  we’ve wondered when we’d find a chance to get to LA to visit my mom. Even though we’ve lived together for over a year (the most wonderful year of my life), Sheryl and my mom have never met in person. On Friday morning, we’re headed to Los Angeles for a long weekend

There’s another really special treat for me. Sheryl and I were in Los Angeles in 2007 for the ITExpo, but we were completely tied up at the conference and didn’t get anywhere outside a 4 block radius while we were there. We’ve been to many of the places she lived growing up and I’ve gotten a glimpses inot her childhood. She’s never gotten a peek into mine at all. On our recent trip to San Fcrancisco, we plannedon a quick trip to the East Bay so she could see where I lived and worked in the late 80′s, but things just didn’t work out and we never made it. This weekend I get to give Sheryl a tour of the places I lived and worked and went to school growing up. I’ve been to visit some places from her childhood, but she’s been to none of mine. This weekend that changes.

And there’s something very special that just came up yesterday too. Our hotel is near Knott’s Berry Farm. I’d thought about a Friday night date. I love our life together and Sheryl sometimes ask me if we’ll still date after we’re married. I’ve promised her movie dates in the old folks home with matching wheelchairs when we reach that point in life. Dating Sheryl – spending those special us times together is very important to me. Those are when we build our loving personal memories together that will stay with us forever. Iit turned out that Knott’s is only open until 6 on Friday. Yeah, talk about losing money. They’re open until 10 on Saturday and 8 on Sunday, but I wanted a special Friday night date with Sheryl. So I made an executive decision to take Sheryl somewhere else she’s never been – Disneyland.

So Friday evening, we’re going on a play date. Our magic love meets the Magic Kingdom. It’s going to be a special evening for us to share in childlike loving wonder and fun together. We didn’t know each other as kids or teens. We met and came together as grown adults with grown kids of our own. We never got to date during those formative years. It’s something we both wish for but we won’t ever be able to share. Instead, we grab the special moments together we can, and will every day for the rest of our lives.

So Friday night, I’m taking the most wonderful woman in the world to Disneyland for a special date sharing fairy tales and magic together. We’ll have our usual gadgets along on our trip (Blackberries, N95 and Nikon – no computers). I’m sure only a fraction of the memories we capture as pictures will make it online. I’d guess less that 10% of the pictures we take go online. Many our memories for us alone. But we’ll be posting pictures and doing our usual social media updates on our weekend together.

And yes, that’s a word of warning to Facebook friends. When we travel, Sheryl shifts into high poke mode, so you can all expect to get poked while we’re waiting for flights.
